De meeste toestellen geven een absolute afstand (in cm), maar sommige geven enkel ''veraf'' en ''dichtbij'' als resultaat.  In het laatste geval is het resultaat meestal de hoogst mogelijke waarde voor de afstand voor ''veraf'', en een kleinere waarde voor ''dichtbij''.",
